Explosion and fire damage can be costly--creating substantial losses in manufacturing downtime and causing extensive damage to valuable production equipment. Fike is uniquely qualified to engineer and supply complete protection against damage resulting from explosions and subsequent fires.
Carbon dioxide is an effective fire suppression agent applicable to a wide range of fire hazards. Carbon dioxide works quickly, with no residual clean-up associated with a system discharge which translates into minimal business interruption.
• Fike’s Marine CO2 valve allows the pneumatic actuator to connect directly to the master valve without additional actuation components. • The pneumatic time delay is installed directly in the manifold, minimizing the use of separate actuators and valves to control agent flow. • All levers and controls are included with the system components allowing easy installation.

What is Electronic Discharge Machining? Electronic Discharge Machining (EDM) is a machining process that uses an electrode to remove metal, or any other conductive material, from a workpiece by generating sparks between conducting surfaces. The electrode is the cutting tool for the EDM process and cuts the workpiece with the shape of the electrode. This material removal technique uses electricity to remove metal by means of spark erosion. During this process, sparks are created between the electrode and the workpiece. The energy from the electrode dissipates the workpiece and the desired shape is formed.

Dust collection is the process of removing or collecting solid particles from airflow to comply with stringent air pollution standards. Large filters trap airborne particles before they are released into the outside air. Bag Type collectors are one of the most common air pollution control technologies that removes particulate matter from the air waste stream being emitted from a broad range of industrial processes. The particulate-laden air stream passes through a woven or felted fabric that filters out the particulate matter and allows the air to pass through.

The electronic systems industry continues to grow year after year, increasing printed circuit board (PCB) use and production. Despite some consolidation among the semiconductor market, the demand for electronic systems continues to soar. According to a study conducted by the NOMURA Research Institute, the demand for PCBs will continue to increase worldwide well into the year 2005, allowing the continuation of wave soldering, which will be the focus of this profile.

The odorizer is used to inject a small amount of wintergreen scent into the carbon dioxide while fl owing through the piping network. When the carbon dioxide discharges into the hazard area, it will carry a scent of wintergreen with it. This wintergreen scent is a warning to personnel entering the hazard area that the area contains a concentration of carbon dioxide and precautions must be taken, either leave the area immediately or secure proper breathing apparatus. The internal ampule containing the oil of wintergreen in the odorizer must be replaced after each system discharge.

The pressure operated siren (P/N C02-1230) is used to warn personnel of a system discharge. The siren is operated with the carbon dioxide pressure from the system. The siren is connected to the system piping using the 1/2” NPT connection located at the base of the siren. The pressure spins the turbine and sounds the siren from the beginning of the discharge throughout most of the discharge time.
